E71 And Themes: Do you Get The Certificate Error?

I tried installing some themes yesterday on my new E71 and I got a weird certificate error. I wasn't getting this with applications it was only when I was trying to install themes.

To solve this problem I had to go into my Application Manager and mess with some settings.

See the steps below to install themes on your Nokia E71:

Menu > Installations > App. Mgr. > Options > Software Installation > All.

After that I was able to install any themes I want. Not sure if all E71's will have this problem out of the box, but if you do this should solve your problem.

Check Out This E71 Theme I Installed...

By the way, check out this free S60 theme by Babi. It looks great on my E71, gives it a very professional and classy look. I personally hate the default themes that come with the E71. This theme is called Gray & Black and comes complete with custom icons.

Click here to download this free theme.

While your there browse all the other awesome S60 themes that Babi makes. Most of the newer ones just render correctly with the E71's resolution and screen size.

TIP: Also Set online certificates to OFF, then if it still does not work, try setting your date a year or two back, install, then just configure to current date again.

But if you guys have problems signing unsigned progs cuz they won't install via PCSuit, and u need key's and cer's, well this is what I am using (hope this is ok to post here, if it does regualate against any rules of this site and law THEN PLEASE REMOVE THIS COMMENT) :

-Well the top link is for unsigned progs (doesn't really work on games), usually u need a key and a cer file, there u don't...if themes got an expired warning, just set the date on your mobile back like a year, usually then it can be installed via PCsuit 4 example, mostly works fine with me! Or the theme u got isn't competable with ya e71

    [sudhir]
-Had toubles removing themes installed on phone memory, but likely with other progs use your PROGRAM MANAGER preinstalled in your e71, find the file u wish 2 delete there and voila, it should be gone with the wind

For those who still gets the cert error message after tinkering with the settings, you can try this:

    - Do not use Nokia PC suite.
    - Connect your cellphone to your pc via cable and connect it as "mass storage".
    - On your PC, Save your installer files to your phone drive, F:/ (eg. installs) as if you are using a thumbdrive.
    - After that, on your E71, Go Menu > Office > File mgr
    - Switch to memory card database (usually by pressing scroll right)
    - Find the location of your installer files (eg. installs).
    - Install your files from there.

    - Then apply these methods again:

Menu > Installations > App. Mgr. > Options > Software Installation > All
Menu > Installations > App. Mgr. > Options > Online certif. > Off
Played with the date (day back, month back, year(s) back):

    It worked for me.

    Dave Lindberg,

if u are posting here u should have a Nokia E71, anyway, like written before, use a pre-installed programm on your e71 that's called PROGR.-MAN. (if u didn't change it, it's in the folder INSTALLAT.) then find the theme u wanna delete, click by pressing DELETE - ENTFERNEN - or what ever language u on and it should be gone!!!

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't!
You will figure that out after downloading and when installing them!
Sometime you have to set your date back a year or so... .. .

Try these sites, most of them worked for me or use the themes posted on/from this site here!!!

Follow the link and get yourself a single app that will allow you to install unsigned applications; no dev cert mucking around required!

I've tried it myself and installed loads of stuff like SymSMB without any issues.

Well how i got my themes to work for my E63 (Having the same problem, Certificate Error Grr)
Okay i would assume you are trying to load it to your memory card. Yeah, don't do that. :)

    1. Download selected theme to PC
    2. With USB transfer theme to phone (I Suggest using the mass storage and saving to memory card)
    3. In phone find the file, then move the file to a folder on your phone NOT memory card, called "Installed Files"
    4. Once moved to this folder click the .sis file
    - Install screen should pop up. click "Yes"
    - Security Warning should also pop up click "Continue"
    - Details Screen click "Continue"
    - Where to install screen should come up click "Phone Memory"
    - Click "Continue" .. again. :D
    Install bar should come up.
    Theme shall be installed.
Then to check go to tools>Themes>General and the theme should be one with a bunch of letters or numbers or if named it would be that one :)

btw, if the theme doesn't work then its most likely broken not your phone.

    Hope i helped.(:

None of the above worked for me (after a recent E71 firmware upgrade). The only thing that worked (for installing trekbuddy, but this may work here too) is to do the reverse, set software installation to "signed only" and "online certificate check" to "on", and then it tries to connect to the internet to get the certificate in installation, I let it, it gives an error "no certificate found" but continues to install...!!! Hopefully Nokia won't fix this, ever.

Menu > Installations > App. Mgr. > Options > Software Installation > Signed Only
Menu > Installations > App. Mgr. > Options > Online certif. > On

Then after it installed you can revert the above settings back..
