Youtube On The Nokia E71 - Watch It Free With Mobitubia

Thanks to the amazing Symbian S60 platform that powers the Nokia E71 there are many ways to watch Youtube on your Nokia E71. Flash Lite 3 is supported in the built in web browser, but you may find that watching Youtube videos with that method can be slow and clunky.

You can also use one of my favorite free S60 application called Mobitubia to watch and download Youtube videos with your E71.

With Mobitubia, you get full accesss to the Youtube database on your Eseries smartphone in good quality, full screen format. The load time is actually pretty quick as well. Best of all you can save your viewed clips to your memory card if you want to check em out later, without having to reload them.

As you can see above you have a nice clean interface with a handful of options.

If you go to the Youtube icon you get the following:

-Recently Featured
-Popular Clips
-Open Web Clip (if you know the URL)
-View by Youtube ID
-Clip Search

Other icons include Saved Clips, Open Clip URL, About, & Exit.

You have so many options while watching a video clip as well.

-Play/Pause
-Replay
-Status Bar (show, hide, autohide)
-Max Frame Skip (keep it at 0)
-Save Clip (when finished viewing, to your phone or card)
-Back and Exit

Make sure you have an unlimited data plan or use this on a WiFi connection, Mobitubia obviously eats up tons of data.

Like I said you can get this great S60 Youtube application for free, although donations are welcomed of course by the developer.

Click here to download Mobitubia Youtube Application for your Nokia E71.

If you have another Youtube and E71 solution I'd like to know. I love trying out new methods.

  1. have you tried emtube? the video seems a little choppy with mobitubia.

  2. I have installed it however when I go into say recently featured clips where the description of each clip should be rather than text there are square boxes. It is as if the font cannot be displayed.

I got help from the developer. Change the date to April 2008!!! Hence, certificate does not expire. Change the date back to current of course
Also go to Tool, Setings, Applications, App Manager change Software Installation to ALL.

  15. I have tried Mobitubia, on N80, N76, and now E71... and Mobitubia application is always unstable... it crashes all the time... not even worth installing..

HOWEVER, I saw some comments for EMTUBE, which is not as 'slick' as Mobitubia, but still very nice high-quality Youtube access (still better than the mobile version of the Youtube web site).

  20. The Real Player on the E71 will also play .flv files whether these are streaming or have been downloaded and transferred to the phone.

I usually choose the latter, i.e. I use my PC's internet connection which is the faster, then with the latest Real Player installed and IE, I can download the .flv movie file onto my PC, then transfer direct onto my phone for mobile viewing without having to convert the file format.

  32. Not sure about either mobitubia or emtube...I haven't tried them. But like anon says above, Browsing youtube (m) and playing with Realplayer (which comes stock with the Symbian OS on the E71 - i think?) works great over a 3g network. Just make sure the RealPlayer > settings > Streaming > Network > Default access point is set to same provider you are using to browse Youtube.
