Setting Up The Notification Lights On The Nokia E71

No doubt one of my favorite little features on the Nokia E71 is the notification light. I wish all Nokia smartphones had this feature, and perhaps the best part about it is how customizable it is.

You can choose to be notified of missed calls, text messages, sms messages, and emails along with changing the amount of time your E71 will blink after the event happened.

In order to save battery life I keep mine set at 30 minutes as I don't need my E71 blinking all damn day. I usually check it every half hour anyways if it's not on me.

To customize these settings go...
Tools > Settings > General > Personalisation > Notification light. Here you will find the options that can be changed to your liking.

Change the blink time...

And change the notified events...

If you want you can turn off the blinking light altogether.

  3. There is also a "breathing light" option. if you have that on, it blinks all the time slowly as long as your display is off. I guess to let you know your phone is still on!

  4. The breathing light option cannot be turned off...And yup its to notify that your phone's still on since the lcd remains completely blank...

  5. The breathing light option can be turned off, at least on my unit. But once it is turned off, it automatically turns on a screen saver showing the current time. I have yet to figure out how to turn that off too to save battery.

  7. Is there a function that allows for reminder tones instead of just the blinking light to notify about missed calls or messages?

  10. In my previous mobile 9500, I had the option of timing out a profile. Which meant, I could put it on silent mode till 7 am after which it would revert to my regular profile. This meant that I would not get woken up in the middle of the night and still not miss the call.

  13. Hi Guys,
You might have the "breathing light" enabled (as it is by default). This is set for each profile - for example, you'll find it her for the General profile ... Tools --> Profile --> General --> Personalise --> Breathing light

By turning off the "Breathing light", I think this will also give you a non-lit digital clock as your screen saver afte your time-out period.

    Hope this helps.

  15. What uses less battery?

    1. Breathing on (and blank screen)

    OR

    2. Breathing off (and having the non-lit digital clock)?

Personally, my guess is that #2 breathing off with the non-lit digital clock uses less battery, but my preference would be to be able to have breathing off and the non-lit digital clock off as well. If I need to see the time, I can hit the center D pad.

  16. I would think that breathing light on would use less battery as the lcd is probably the most power consuming part like a notebook.

  17. No its the LCD backlight that uses the power

  18. My problem is this: With the breathing light off - the digital clock keeps popping up when I'm using the phone as a GPS.... very annoying. The GPS will suppress the regular screen saver - but not this. Only fix is to leave on the breathing light.. (GPS software is Garmin Mobile XT)

  20. I love this feature, but inadvertently pressed the "backspace" key and now it doesn't notify me when I have a new text message...you know how it had that little envelope that lit up at the bottom? It doesn't light anymore, I can't figure out how to "unhide" it. Can anyone help?
