tried "best answering machine?" and was horrified since the software opens my own mic so the caller hears me and everything that i talk when "best answering machine" is activated" - the seller responded tha they know about it(!!!) but they "assume that teh feature is for times taht im not around"............:))). does anybosdy have a solution or a better software?

On my Nokia E71 I have
Tools --> Settings --> General --> Security --> Phone and SIM card --> Keypad Autolock Period
Set to NONE
Still the phone locks the keypad after a short while once the backlight of the phone turns off.
And prompts:
Press unlock and then function key to activate keypad
This is very annoying. How to get rid of that?

If I have apps installed on my SDMicro card (and I do) then can you explain what to do when replacing the card with a larger one.. do I need to uninstall my apps and reinstall to phone memory? Can I just use my PC to copy the contents of the old card to the new card?

Solved one of the issues I posted for assistance 15 mins ago.

Do not need to do hardware reset for card formatting. Went to Menu>Tools>memory and it said card corrupted and then lo and behold, it asked whether I want to format the card. So I did. I still need help with two other issues though...

I'm using Opera Mini more than the Nokia web browser.

About the Nokia one, even when I set Clear Privacy data/All, I still get a few websites listed when I partially enter the URL of a site I am about to visit. So the History is not totally deleted even when I set Clear Privacy data/All.

No such problem with Opera Mini though. So it looks like I have to manually trawl through the folders to permanently delete History listing in Nokia web browser.

Where do I start looking for the files to delete?

One flaw in Opera Mini is that it doesn't allow user to create folders to organise websites. Have suggested to the developers to allow this feature in the next version. Hopefully, they will.

Not sure where to post this. I bought a E71 in India (Gurgaon) on 16th Aug 2008. By 22nd August 2008, I started having problems with the scroll key (pressing it for downward scroll resulted in opening apps instead of scrolling) and some of the keys on the keyboard. I took it to Nokia Care center (Sheetla Communications) and they informed that this is a hardware problem. Request for a replacement fell on deaf ears. The call center later informed that the phone is repaired. However, I am yet to get it back. A couple of visits to the care center turned useless. Calling them is not usefull too - they don't pick the phone. A later check on the net was interesting - so many complains about service quality and product quality. At this rate, I am sure that Nokia would start loosing market share.

That's right, there's a bit of trial an error on deciding what goes where, I agree that themes (or at least your favorite one) works better on the internal memory, but Symbian is designed to automatically switch to a default theme (or even shut down a program) if you remove the SD card (just follow the normal ejection procedure and you'll be fine). Other apps like some answering machines recommend the internal memory for better performance.

By the way, Have'nt you guys installed some apps that don't even ask for installation destination? I have, so if I'm presented with an option at installation I assume it's fine to do so either way.

well, logically since the phone was manufactured in a way that it can use an external memory card then there shouldnt be any problem... if not, then my 8gb sd card is a waste..

all applications, games and anything that i can save or back up, i'll save it into my external sd card and yet to experience any problem...

I've had Nokia Sambian phones for years. You usually want to mix with the installing to phone or memory card. Themes, of course install to phone so you can hot swap mem card. SOME apps work better on a card than the phone, like said earlier, media programs and mail programs. So its take a little trial and error sometimes.
